EmilyWilliams Johnson Illness and Reflection

I have to say, it has been an interesting week! A week ago, I flew to Charlotte with my Mom to visit my sister and her family. I made my mother get the flu shot so we would be protected from the flu bug since we were flying. I obsessively used hand sanitizer and was very careful with hand washing but...something slipped past me and I got strep (I think, at least that's what I treated), that turned into an upper respiratory infection, that turned into laryngitis and possibly "walking pneumonia" (… Continue

EmilyWilliams Johnson Kona vs. FL, 2010

As I'm getting ready to watch the IM World Championship in Kona, I started thinking a lot about that course. The announcer was saying how difficult the course was. Initially, Kona was going to be my A-race. But....I don't feel worthy of Kona yet-and I don't think I'm ready for a HIM on a tough course. Then I saw a HIM in FL, May 16 (the day after my b-day!) that is really flat and goes around Disney....I'm thinking of changing my A-race to this one. It's only my first season and if I do Kona no… Continue

Sergio Borges "Believe in the Dream" - The Journey of an ironguides athlete

From Gilbert fisch

Hi Sergio, When I decided to race Monaco I remembered your comment about chosing the races wisely according to ones abilities. Well, I have become a pretty strong roller who is still strugling with climbing at steeper grades. So I had second thoughts about racing Monaco. But on the other h… Continue

Tim Thanks Kristian

I'd like to say thanks to my ironguides coach, Kristian Manietta. I have known him for more than five years and I have been working with him professionally since mid-November 2008. And I can say without hesitation that I'm a far better triathlete today for it. In embracing The Method, I've had to put aside my general questioning of every session - at least enough to accept that what I'm to do in each session is because it will make me faster. And it has. In the final weeks ahead of Ironman Ca… Continue

Tim Ironman Canada

It wasn't pretty. Nope, not in anyway. But I've got my medal and it was a day of at least one first: cycling into a moving SUV and then hitting the ground. Not recommended! http://www.triathletetim.com/2009/09/imc.html Continue

Jozsef Major Greetings from Germany

Hi, I’m here in Roth to prepare well for the Quelle Challenge Ironman in July 12. I arrived 1 week ago and I took part in a short distance triathlon, called Rothsee Triathlon. My start wasn’t the best however I was satisfied with my swimming (21:28) because I didn’t feel too bad. On the bike I was in a disadvantegous situation because I didn’t know the course well. So usually I got some meters from the others in the sharp corners. Anyway I had the 3. best bike split (01:01:04), with more experi… Continue

Jozsef Major Hungarian Duathlon Championship

Two weeks right after the Ironman I decided to run a minimarathon in Mosonmagyarovar which is not far from Gyor (where I live). It was 14 kilometers, it seemed to be a very good training for me. As Sergio adviced I started the first 5 kilometer moderate (16:51:08), the next 5 kilometer was easy, comfortable (17:18:19) and I tried to push the last 5 km hard (16:20:00). The overall time was 52:58:01 a new course record. I was very happy that I felt good on the run and I could win. Three weeks aft… Continue

Jozsef Major 3rd at the Ironman China on a lent bike

A triathlete without his bike on the day of the event is indeed a very sad person. That’s what happened to me. I learned once I was in China that my bike had not followed me there. After a brief moment of panic and a phone call to Argon 18, New Sheng Yang’s team who distributes Argon 18 bikes in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong came to my rescue: in less than 12 hours I got a brand new E-114 adjusted according to my measures delivered to me in Haikou. With this bike I finished in 3rd place of the eve… Continue

WOODY Buschhütten Triathlon, Germany

This Olympic distance triathlon in Germany signifies the start of the German season and attracts many big names and is a great competitive race!! I decided to race this as it fit perfectly into my preparation for Austria 70.3 2 weeks later. We travelled over to the race by car, 3 athletes, 3 bikes and my wife (driver) in one car for 15 hours drive, lots of fun!!! If there were a car packing world champs I would surely be in with a shout!! RACE DAY A nice sunny day was very welcome for race da… Continue

Charlotte Paul Busselton Half Report

I think I've set a scary precedent. Actually I like it- normally I race halves before my Ironman races, so I get very little taper- the Half isn't the goal- I need to train through. This time I got 2 weeks "taper"! I'm really happy with my result- A PB, a win and I'm just amazed that I could do it after I was so shattered post China. I finally started to feel alive again 3 days out from the race! China seemed like only yesterday, but now with another race under the belt, it seems like a long ti… Continue

Michael Williams 2000 meter Open Water Swim

2009-05-02: We had a local open water swim at Lake Saguaro, AZ, with a 2000m and a 4000m (http://www.dcbadventures.com/DCB/AZOWS_1.html) . I entered the 2000m for fun and completed it in 48:20.0 . For a lake, the water was pretty choppy with some people stopping early because of nausea, but the temperature was good. My time was a little slower than what I had expected (as were those of my friends), but with the chop and the informal me… Continue
